A bit of a question (or two )for ye. How do you
seperate the music from the musician, and should you ?

I ma thinking of an interview I heard with Rita Marley
, who said that husband Bob had raped her when she
would not have sex with him. Now, I love his music and
I suppose when younger, I kind of idolised him. I knew
he was a womaniser and had fathered many chidren with
different women but this is obviously different. I
still love the music but it has been tarnished for me.

I know we should all know the truth and that is fine as
far as it goes, but hearing that interview really stole
something from me - or at least stole something which
the young lad that I was had cherished.

I am not that naive that I think all performers are as
their public persona shows, but have any of ye had a
similar experience? I know some people who love the
music of Wagner but are unhappy about it's associations.

Would I be better off in ignorance - after all there is
nothing I could do or could have done about it - or is
it better to know the truth about our heroes ,no matter
how unpalatable ,so that we can judge them fully and
under stand what went into the art that we love?.

Of course I am not suggesting anything about Tom Waits !!
