I can see where you are coming from Emma. I have
downloaded a lot of music over the past few years and
although I love it, it's not the same as going to the
shop, buying it, unwrapping it, listening to it while
you read the sleevenotes. BUT I too can't afford to
fulfill all my music needs, not by a long shot. So
until the time that I can afford to go and buy
everything I want I will still download some for free.

In vague self defence I have to say that free
downloading has certainly prompted me to go out and buy
stuff I wouldn't even have thought of buying normally
AND I am not anywhere near being in the big league for
downloading freebies. I just don't have the patience
most of the time.

I do have a few codes of conduct I stick to as well.
That is, it's ok to download from A) artists that are
no longer living, B) Really rich ones (think Stones,
McCartney etc). I don't download whole albums from
artists who are just starting out, just one or two
tracks to see if I like them enough to buy.

So, in conclusion.. it's not really ok to do it but you
only live once..and if your one life happens to be one
that is not particularly financially rewarding then
maybe you should allow yourself a little pleasure like
this once in a while.
