Subject To download or not to download

For me there are a couple main issues I have with downloading
music - this is just a purely personal thing and I don't for a
minute want to seem like I'm judging anyone or to make anyone
annoyed. As a music lover I just find it interesting to hear what
other music lovers think - I have this conversation with friends a
lot and know that from a personal point of view (i) I don't give CDs
that are downloads (or copies for that matter) the same TLC I give
the real things. It's an aesthetic thing. Blank white CDs and
verbatim cases are not as lovely as real CDs and nowhere near as
brilliant as vinyl. I love playing records, the appeal of the music
and of the object I suppose. (ii) If a band are relatively small and
unlikely to make much money, I feel as though if I want to hear
more from them I should support them (but I can't always afford
it, so in hard times I would download). Most recent example are
Sons and Daughters, a Glasgow band who I think are great but
know for a fact run on a shoestring. I wouldn't feel good about
downloading their only album when I can buy it in Fopp for seven
quid (which is still a lot of money for me as it goes). Anyway,
that's it, just a purely personal opinion, not the opinion of the BBC
:-)
