Ohh, I have failed with one potential convert.
He is a 50 year old trad jazz drummer.
I didn't know where to start him on The Man, so
I gave him a CD of the albums
A. "Heart Of Saturday Night"
and
B. " Swordfishtrombones"
he said "B " was "Interesting" (where have we heard
that before :-(( ) but not his cup of tea. "A " was
a bit too slow for him.
I also burnt him the live recording from London of
"Straight To The Top " for bit of drums and a live feel.
So far not so good.
(He also did not like Anthony & the Johnsons)
I am going to try a sneaky one, the Diana Krall
"Temptation " (ref Alli!) next, and if he likes it ,
then tell him it is from the man.
(Maybe he is just pretneding and is trying to get the
whole catalogue off me gratis?)
Anyway. This leads me to my next two missions, and this
time I don't want to let ye all down.
First target is a 40 year old Springsteen fan. He
already loves " Jersey Girl" but has laughed in
derision at the Apollo version of "Hoist That Rag" .
Please give me 8 or so TW that I might try him out on.
I have a few in mind but would really like to hear
suggestions.
Second target is my 8 year old nephew who is into -
wait for it- Iron Maiden.
Now I have burnt for him a DVD of some Iron Maiden
stuff and tagged on to the end of it the videos of "I
Don't Wanna Grow Up" and the TW & Primus "Tommy The
Cat". No feedback so far , but I have gained a bit of
pre-teen headbanging credibility by giving him Saxon's
"Greatest Hits", who he had never heard of, but
absolutely loves.
So now I have one shot to get a young convert for life.
What will I do????
