God's Away On Business was the tightest, most perfect rendition of a tune I've ever heard. I wouldn't particularly have chosen this song beforehand - it's great, but wouldn't have been on my wishlist in the same way as, say, Telephone Call From Istanbul (which he never played, but I never really cared. Maybe next time!) - but the live version was phenomenal, really came to life with Brain's percussion. Delighted also to hear Alice (breathtaking) and Lucky Day. And Lost at the Bottom of the World was a really beautiful song. I'd never heard it before Monday's gig but am still singing it to myself in my head. Tom's voice was superb, so complex and versatile; he can still sing in any way he chooses, it's all there, and whatever he decides to play on the night will be brilliant. Wish I could've afforded to see more nights, but have already bankrupted myself over the one! The experience, though, was priceless - worth all the years of waiting, wishing and hoping. Will start saving up now for the next tour! Enjoy yourselves everyone, you all deserve it. |
