Tony Franciosa | 03.12.2004 01:43 | My first time (continued) I was moved by everyones recollections, so I thought I'd add mine... 1998, my roommate/best friend was a long-time Tom fan and had never seen him live. His birthday is in March and I scored two tickets to the Dead Man Walking benefit concert in Los Angeles (where Tom was playing) as a surprise gift. I was a fan too, but not very serious. The show absolutely blew me away. Black Mariah, Goin out West, Jesus gonna be here...WOW! From that experience, I was hooked. Since then, I've acquired all of his work (finally picked up The Black Rider in the lobby at the Carre!). So, I have to say it was the man himself, live, that made me a fan. Seeing him again on the Mule Variations tour just made it stronger. Last month, people looked at me like I was crazy when I said that I was flying from San Diego to Amsterdam to see Tom on Friday and Saturday. It was magnificent! I'll remember it for the rest of my life. I only hope the rumors of a US tour in March are true... |
