Raindog Harry | 17.08.2005 22:22 | To Eric and all - Possibly (slightly) interesting news First of all, much too late, Eric! Thanks for the Asia photo's. I DID receive them and was glad to receive them. Could have reacted earlier (me of course, not you!) H. To ALL: Read an intriguing articel in a Dutch magazine, about a musician called Daniel Johnston. intriguing as he is described as someone who makes good, interesting music, and as someone who is appreciated by a lot of good colleague musicians such as Kurt Cobain, David Bowie, Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse. Well, who care, I can hear some of you think. This forum is about Waits. You're right. Now comes the interesting part. In the article I read that the latest cd of this Mr. Johnston, whom I had never even heard of (he seems to have made about 30 cd's already), called Discovered Covered, contains eighteen of his songs, performed by other musicians, such as Beck, Bright Eyes, Eels, Sparklehorse, AND... tadatadatada Tom Waits. Anyone heard/read this? A second cd contains the original recordings by Johnston himself. I am quite curious about this guy himself, interesting background, still living with his parents, and of course I am very curious to know what this song sounds like then. It seems that we have a new opportunity to hear something by Waits that is more recent than Real Gone. Marco, this may be interesting stuff, also apart from the Waits song. The article is in Vrij Nederland of this week. H. |
