Tonight at 23:59 a shop in Oslo was selling Real
Gone. I drove the hour in, but was a little late
underway. Then the approach to town was closed (they
love digging up roads at night) so I had to negotiate
through the one way and dead-end system. Found a park
and ran as best I could to the shop (had run a
marathon earlier in the day so everything goes a
little slower)
Got there at 00:25 and they were in the process of
locking up. I pleaded, and pointed out that I had
driven for an hour and had an hour's drive home. "But
we have just set the alarm". Apparently to unset the
alarm and give me a CD and take my cash was too much
work. They laughed about me driving for 2 hours and
coming too late. So I drove home empty handed. They
assured me that there were plenty left, and I assured
them I would be buying elsewhere.
I had planned to buy 3-4 other Waits CDs that I am
missing at the same time. But it will be a cold day
in hell before Platekompaniet, Stortningsgate see any
of my money. Never been impressed with the service
there, and you only get so far with low prices.
If you think the Dutch screwed up the ticketing, wait
for the day when Tom graces Norway with his presence.
The norwegian national sport is queuing and the
counter staff take special courses in Passive
Resistance and Creative Incompetence.
I'll get Real Gone tomorrow, but will only drive as
far as Sandvika. Now I am physically and emotionally
exhausted. I guess I used up this week's quota of
luck on Saturday.
Keep hammering away at ticketmaster.nl. I remember
for Paris in 2000 I didn't hear about it until a few
days after the sale started but managed to pick up a
ticket on the internet - surprisingly easily. So I
guess there might be more to be released yet, or
reallocations or cancellations.
