Hello Liat,

Yes, he is used to Tom Waits' music ;-). When my kids
were even younger than they are now, I used to play
the cd The Black Rider for them a lot and invented
stories for them, based on the music. The stories
that I told differed each time, but the following
ingredients always came back: a forest, a lake, a
witch flying above the forest, a giant (you can hear
him stamping in one of the songs) an old man
searching for mushrooms in the forest (the music here
would be the song in which William Burroughs is
singing "It ain't no sin, to take off your skin and
dance around in your bones", or the song in which he
sings "That's the way the stomach rumbles, that's the
way the bee bumbles, that't the way the needle
pricks, that the way glue sticks," etc.) And when the
song arrived in which you can easily picture a
galloping horse, I used to swing the children on my
neck (one at a time of course), and run, run, run,
through the room. They loved that, I still do it,
sometimes. Nowadays, on Sunday mornings, I still play
the cd a lot, and when I do, the atmosphere is good,
they love that music, because there are so many
memories attached to the cd now. When I put it on, I
usually start it on number 3, November. They, and I,
love that song. It is one of my favourites. I hope he
will play it. I saw (nice word, here, "saw", guess
you know why, the singing saw) that he played it in
one of the Vancouver shows or the Seattle show, so,
who knows, it will be November after all. I also find
it a nice idea that my son is now the same age (13)
that Waits' son Casey was when he played the drums
during one song in one or both of the The Hague shows
in 1999. I think that Waits will bring his son to the
shows in Amsterdam, at least I would guess that they
would both find it a good opportunity to see our
beautiful city, and he also played in Canada, so I
guess he will be playing the turntables over here as
well.

So far for sons.

Regards,
Harry
