In the beginning it all seemed quite harmless and
normal...listening to a bit of Tom with friends on a
social occasion, or celebrating the end of a hard week
by playing a TW record on Friday night. But suddenly
things started getting out of control.First thing in
the morning i'd need a shot of Tom before i could even
think straight, or function like a regular person.
Somehow it got me through the morning at work, before
i could go out for a lunchtime fix with my Walkman.
Man, i was getting a real taste for this guy's ear
juice. Pretty soon i was downing the hard
stuff...obscure bootlegs,compilations, The Early Years
Vol One. If i went more than an hour without a hit i'd
start getting the DT's ( delirium Tom's). I became a
secret listener, cancelling dates and appointments so i
could feed my furtive habit. My girlfriend left
me,saying that i had become a different person and she
didn't know me any more. One day the boss called me in
and said " we know what you're up to sonny...coming in
here every morning bleary-eyed and slurring your
words". I denied everything, but he sent me to
Tomoholics Anonymous for treatment. They put me on a
Cold Turkey withdrawal programme but it drove me mad
going without my daily dose of Tom.Then they tried me
on a new wonderdrug called Jamie Cullum (it's a kind
of musical Kaliber lager),but that didn't work
either.Made me sick in fact.I walked out of Tomoholics
Anonymous and went straight to the record store for a
pick-me-up.Some addictions are worth having i feel,and
there's nothing like the hair of the (rain)dog is
there?

A Very Hungover raymy
