Hi Eric,
OK, here we go, just as long as you understand that
it's only funny if Tom is saying it...
He told the story of how in Italy years ago they
thought tomatoes were poisonous, as people were dying
after eating them. Of course this could of had
something to do with the fact that they were eating
them off lead plates!!
He went on to tell a story about people being buried
alive & having to have a bell that could be sounded by
pulling a chain in the coffin, hence the origin of the
phrase "Dead Ringer"!!
There was another phrase origin he told, something
about the person who has to wait in the cemetery to
hear the bell, my brain must be completely shot from
last night still cos I cant remember it.
If anyone out there can enlighten me I'd appreciate it.
