OK Ginsoaked Boy,

I understand that you are curious to know what the
dream means.

Actually it is quite easy. Everything has to do with
longing, that is to say, with longing in the sense of
desiring, and literally with long-ing, in other
words: to make longer. I will come back to this in a
minute.

What it means is this: all of us are longing to see
Mr. Waits perform. We want to see him, and if we have
tickets we want to have the best possible places in
the concert hall. Right? Right. So: in your dream,
you went closer to the stage where you had seen empty
places. Lucky you. About two rows behind you there
was a man sitting there who would also have loved to
be closer to the stage, to see his hero. But he was
so enthralled by the show that he did not see the
empty seats in front of him. When you and your missus
occupied these seats the man behind you envied you of
course. He "longed" to be at your seats. And he was
reaching out his neck as far as he could to be at
least on an equal level with you. Without success, of
course, for nobody has a neck that long. BUT: this
guy happens to have a magic little box in the right
pocket of his suit. On the label of that magic box it
says Long Cream. It is a sort of magic ointment that
he once got from an old witch in a dream that he
himself had years before. It goes too far here to go
into the details of that story. It is not important
either. What matters is that he has the Long Cream.
So, he takes some cream in his hands and rubs it on
his neck. And, lo, and behold, the very instant he
rubs his neck, he feels that it starts to grow. And
grow. And grow. Longer and longer. Wow! Not bad. But,
unfortunately the witch was not only capable of
making magic ointments, she also has a somewhat
misschievous nature. One might also say that she
likes to joke a bit. So, after the neck has grown
considerably, the man also feels a feather on his
body. And another feather. And, you'll guess it by
now, another feather. He is being transformed into an
ostrich that matches the long neck... O dear! Being
still jealous that you have better seats than he
does, he starts picking you in the back. You feel
something picking, but you are still too much
occupied by Mr Waits' show to turn around and look
who or what is picking you. You don't care really.
This annoys the ostrich, of course. So, he takes off
his shoes and throws them at you, one after the
other. Being an ostrich he is of course not good at
aiming and he misses you, the shoes land right under
the seat of the guy sitting in front of you. Nobody
notices the shoes really. So, you think that there
were no shoes in your dream. But actually they were
there. How could it have been otherwise Ginsoakedboy.
And if I am not mistaken, the shoes are still laying
underneath the seat of that chair in the concert
hall. Unless the person who cleaned the hall after
the concert bent down, saw the shoes and
thought: "Hey, a pair of shoes, funny!" and took them
home with him.

(They were red shoes by the way.)
