Hi Mary,
Yes, I missed Nick Cave in November here. Had bankrupted myself
going to Berlin to see Tom and just couldn't afford it - also
figured I might get another chance to see Nick Cave, hopefully. A
friend of mine went and said he was great - complete with gospel
singers and all.

You're right, Tom would fit in well at the Scotia. A friend of mine -
another big Tom Waits fan - got chatting one night to a guy in
there who plays sometimes and sings the odd Tom Waits cover.
Anyway, this guy claimed - cross my wooden leg and swear on my
glass eye - that Tom Waits had once been in Glasgow, years and
years into the distant and by now rather hazy past, and at the
time had gone for a drink in the Scotia, met up with this very guy
himself and had ended up after a night on the sauce crashing with
him at his house on Mosspark Boulevard. So... this guy claims that
Tom was inspired and wrote The Heart of Saturday Night about
this night in Glasgow - the second cousin in the song being this
guy's second cousin and the boulevard in question being
Mosspark Boulevard! What a story! The kind of tall tale of which
Tom himself would be proud - I absolutely love it! And it certainly
brings a smile to my face when I listen to the song. I live not far
from Mosspark Boulevard and see it every day walking my dogs in
Bellahouston Park - the thought of Tom barrelling down it
(avoiding the Buckfast bottles of course ;-)), is rather appealing.
So there you go - a long and somewhat crooked story.
